FELT MUSHROOM

This is a lovely little broach that I made for my sister and came across again when I was home (she keeps it on her pin-board as she doesn't want to damage or lose it). I forgot how much I love felt! The most recent thing I have made is the little gnome and am in the process of making a little house, but that has been put on hold due to essays. Can't wait to get back to making it!

PIECE OF MIND

Last night was the Piece of Mind Mental Wealth Art Exhibition and it went really well! It was great to see the work of other students and work from groups in Dundee as well as in St Andrews. It was a lovely evening and apparently pretty busy, which is great. Here are a few pictures of the pieces I entered and a few of the canvas as a work-in-progress.Thank you to Rachel for reminding me of the Gnome's name- in case you were wondering, this is Gordon.

PIECE OF MIND

My work will be on display at Victoria Memorial Hall tomorrow as part of a University run exhibition about Mental Health. Please pop along if you aren't busy, it should be a good evening. I haven't entered any big pieces, just a small canvas and my gnome but I am excited to see everyone else's work. I am sure it will be a lovely night!

A SOCK KANGAROO

Yes, a sock can be turned into a kangaroo and here is the evidence! Started this at craft society yesterday and decided to finish it today as procrastination (should have been writing an essay) but never mind I can just submit this instead! Not such an easy pattern to follow as the others, and more of the stitches show which is a shame, but I suppose it can't be helped. If you want to make your own, look at the Sockology book by Brenna Maloney.

A LITTLE DIARY

I meant to upload some photos of this at the time I actually made it, September last year, before Claire and I went off to University. It's an academic diary and I came across it when at home this Easter! My sister still uses it, which is very nice of her! I sewed the piece together first and then attached it and varnished it. On the whole, I think it's holding up rather well considering it goes in and out of her bag every day!

EMBROIDERY

Over the few weeks before my Easter holidays, I learnt how to embroider properly at Craft Society. I learnt slip-stitch, satin-stitch and the fish-bone one and the one that twists around (I can't remember their names!). I really enjoyed it and feel proud to have finally learnt, as we have some works that my Grandma made hanging up at home and I am so happy that I can now do the same stitches, even though I am still a long way away from being as good. I want to get mine framed at some point soon as well, probably in a nice wooden frame. Til then, here's some pictures of the completed work, I just sewed a simple design, some mushrooms and flowers.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Don't worry, this was sent on time and was not a 'Belated Mothers Day' card, I simply forgot to upload the photos nearer the time! Just a quick card that I whipped up, the usual lace, stamps and buttons, but I personalised it by adding the rather (I find) entertaining picture of myself and my mum. Mum, although she liked  the card, was mortified by the picture! Never mind, I am sure if I tried hard enough I could have found a far worse picture...
